Who I am and why I’m here?

Who am I?

I’m a writer, author and publisher of the Mabel Hartley ebook young adult fiction series.

Writing is the thing I love best, the thing that makes time stand still. When I’m writing, it’s like I’m not in my body anymore. If someone asks me a question, I can’t hear them. It’s always been like this, this submerging into words on a page. But there is a cost.

The cost is putting all my fears aside. Sometimes trying to suffocate them, because they would tell me that this writing doesn’t matter, that this writing of mine will never be read, that I am not talented enough to find an audience.

So I push through the fear that sometimes casts my feet in cement and I try to get somewhere, try to take an expected and surprising journey because it feels like  what I’m supposed to do with the time I have.

What’s this website for?

It’s been almost two years since I started this website and since then I’ve published the first two of my stories to Amazon.com and have written the third story.

I created this website for readers and writers to find out more about me and my writing. I write, publish and maintain this website because I want the world to find my books and read them and love Mabel Hartley as much as I do. Most of all, I write to inspire others to read because through reading I believe we find ourselves.

I have loved reading my stats reports these past two years and finding there are people from more than 82 countries who have come to have a look. Most have come from Canada, Brazil and the US but on any given day someone else might come from Saudi Arabia, like they did yesterday.

Why should people read my stories?

Because my books are a lot of fun whether you’re eight years old or 80 years old. Mabel takes people to places they’ve never been. Not places in another realm, places right here on earth, places that are worth reading about, places that mean something to the people that came before us.

And then there’s Mabel. She likes to take chances and she likes to break rules. But that’s not even the half of it. She has two best friends Tabby and Hugh that are there to protect her, help her and together they navigate the world of being a teenager and finding a place and people to belong to.

Mabel Hartley stories are about finding your way in the world no matter your path. They are about being true to yourself and trying to find your way no matter how dark the tunnel. Mabel Hartley stories are about listening to that one voice inside that tells you to create something.

Listen to that voice, and if you are very brave you might just surprise and astonish yourself. You might just leave a legacy of which your children can be proud. Because in the end it all comes back to using your life for a purpose. Have you, dear reader, found your purpose? Keep listening and you will!

  1. Love this post Jane! Mark Twain said “the two most important days of your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why.” Some people never see the second, and if they do, they sometimes do not have the courage to push through all the fear to live their purpose. The world is a better place when people like you manage to live the “why!”
