- be prepared to do it completely differently than you have before (if you haven’t tried to write a novel before then just do it)
- don’t edit the first version. write everything down and then go back and fix it later after you have a story worked out on the page
- discipline yourself to work at least 1-2 hours a day. some days will be hard others will be a breeze. writers have to write
- give yourself credit for trying and when the words don’t come easily, know there will be another day coming when they will march onto the page
- be prepared to write anything your characters tell you. they know more than you do. listen to them. it’s their story to tell
