Zootopia (2016)

zootopiaJust caught this one in the theatre with the kids and it’s the best film I’ve seen in a long time. I really liked the premise, which is a bunny deciding to become a cop in the big city.

But this movie is about so much more than following your dreams. It’s about what you do when your dreams lead you to being a parking metre maid and things don’t turn out the way you hoped.

Zootopian society is full of stereotypes, just like ours. There are the predators and the prey all living in seeming harmony together until some of the predators start to disappear (which is a case that Miss Bunny can’t even get close to).

Enter sly fox, played by Jason Bateman and you have a movie that’s shaping up to be much more than it first appears. Take your children to see this one, go see it by yourself or for that matter go see it twice by yourself. It will make you think about how you fall into patterns like judgements and stereotypes but it will also make you see that we always need to look past what we see to the hearts of other people before we decide who and what they might be.
