Want to take a dizzying ride guaranteed to mess with your head?

Last night we watched Ex-Machina a film that is so gorgeous, so well written and so well performed that you can’t help but check to make sure there is blood flowing through your veins.

Enter a computer programmer named Caleb, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who wins a trip to spend a week with Nathan, founder of the company (a Google type search engine) he works for.

Oscar Isaac gives a chilling performance as Nathan, and reveals he has actually brought Gleeson to evaluate his latest venture into artificial intelligence.

Alicia Vikander plays Ava, a robot who appears human in every way, except for the fact that she doesn’t bleed and her skin can be peeled back to reveal wiring underneath.

There is a creepiness to the whole movie that makes your hair stand up on end and makes you wonder who the robots are and what the characters will do to get what they want. The writing is so powerful that close to the end you have no clue who is the villain and who is being played. Perhaps it’s you.
